Springfield, Missouri is a great city. But sometimes the best thing about it is how easy it is to escape.
Just 20 minutes west of Springfield, tucked along the rolling countryside near Ash Grove, there's a property that most Springfield locals have never heard of. And once they find it, they can't stop coming back.
Cedar Bluff Farms.
It's a countryside retreat with two distinct properties: The Lodge, a five-bedroom farmhouse on 75 private acres that sleeps 16, and The River House, a modern vintage escape on 80 acres with private river and creek access. Both are available for short-term stays, and both offer something that's genuinely hard to find this close to Springfield: peace and quiet, wide open land, and room to breathe.
Here's everything you need to know.
What Is Cedar Bluff Farms?
Cedar Bluff Farms is a family-owned countryside retreat near Ash Grove, Missouri. It's not a resort. It's not a hotel. It's more like borrowing your dream farm for a weekend, with a few extra perks thrown in.
Think fire pits and farm animals. Hot tubs and creek access. Big farmhouse kitchens built for cooking real meals together. Covered porches made for coffee and conversation.
It's the kind of place that reminds you what it feels like to slow down.
The Lodge: Made for Groups and Families
If you're bringing a group, The Lodge was built for you.
Five bedrooms. Nine beds. Two and a half baths. Sleeps 16 comfortably on 75 private acres. There's a full game room with ping pong, foosball, and yes, a Nintendo 64. There's a fire pit circle with Adirondack chairs. A private stocked pond. A golf cart for exploring the property. Farm animals including goats, a donkey named Wilson, and a calf named Midnight.
The Lodge works for family reunions, friend group weekends, corporate retreats, sports teams, bachelorette weekends, and pretty much any gathering where you need room for everyone and don't want to feel cramped.
Best for: Large family gatherings, reunions, friend groups (10 to 16 people), bachelorette weekends, sports teams, wedding parties.
The River House: Private and Scenic
If The Lodge is the gathering place, The River House is the escape.
Four bedrooms, two baths, sleeps 12. But it's the setting that makes it special. The River House sits on 80 private acres with access to Sycamore Creek and the Sac River. Kayaks are included. There's a hot tub, a golf cart, a large farmhouse kitchen, and a spa-like primary bathroom that guests consistently rave about.
The design is warm and layered with moody olive tones, honey oak cabinets, vintage-inspired lighting, arched mirrors, and blue-and-white floral accents. It photographs beautifully, and it feels like a high-end vacation home that somehow stayed a secret.
No close neighbors. No noise. Just countryside.
Best for: Couples getaways, girls weekends, smaller family groups, anyone who wants privacy and a little luxury.
What to Do Nearby
Cedar Bluff Farms is peaceful, but you're never far from something to do.
Stockton Lake is about 30 minutes away and is fantastic for boating, fishing, and swimming. The Sac River runs right along the property and is perfect for kayaking and fishing. Springfield is 20 to 25 minutes east, with great dining, shopping, and the Springfield Cardinals if baseball is your thing. SGF Airport is just 17 minutes away, making it easy for out-of-town guests to fly in. Ash Grove itself is a charming small Missouri town worth a stop.
And honestly, a lot of guests find they don't want to leave the property at all. The farm animals alone are a half-day activity.
When to Book
Summer is the busiest season at Cedar Bluff Farms, and both properties fill up fast, especially on weekends. If you're planning a July 4th gathering, a family reunion, or a late-summer girls trip, it's worth checking availability sooner rather than later.
Both properties can also be booked together for truly large groups or multi-family gatherings. They're about 2 miles apart by road.
How to Book
Both The Lodge and The River House are available through Airbnb or through direct booking.

One More Thing: It's Also a Wedding Venue
If you're in the early stages of wedding planning and searching for outdoor venues near Springfield, Cedar Bluff Farms is worth a serious look. The Lodge is a licensed outdoor wedding venue with multiple ceremony settings and a full weekend experience that most one-day venues simply can't offer.
Couples get Friday night, the ceremony on Saturday, and a slow Sunday morning with their people still on the property. It's a completely different way to celebrate.
But that's a whole other blog post. For now, go check your summer availability. You deserve a weekend on 75 acres.
